BAND COMPETITION

2023 Winner Barringer High School

The 11th Annual High School Marching Band Competition

is a highlight of The Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade Festivities Sponsored by Gibbons, P.C.

One of the best traditions of the Newark Parade is its Annual High School Marching Band Competition, now in its 11th year. The pride on the young people’s faces and the exciting celebrations by the winning organizations add a unique quality to the event. Local area high schools participate and are judged by a leading national adjudicator of scholastic performing ensembles, USBands. The groups are considered and awarded points in three main categories: Overall Effect, Music Performance, and Visual Performance. The first, second, and third place winners are determined based on total points allocated out of one thousand. The First Place Winner receives the coveted Gibbons, P.C. Trophy!

We congratulate those who participated in 2023 and are pleased to salute our winning entries:

  • First Place Barringer High School Marching Band
  • Second Place Science Park High School Legion of Boom Marching Band
  • Third Place Orange High School Mighty Marching Tornadoes Band

We welcome this year’s participating schools: Barringer, East Side, Hawkins Street, KIPP NJ, Newark Collegiate Academy, Orange High, Science Park, and Wilson Avenue.

Special thanks to our judges from USBands: Judy Ulchinsky, Joe Marrella, and Jim Mallen!

Big special thanks to our Competition Chair, Erin Sweeney. Thanks for all you do to make this a special part of our parade.

Please come to the reviewing stand at Kilkenny Ale House, 27 Central Avenue, at 2:30 pm to hear the celebration of this year’s winners!
